Aztecs in the NFL: Week 14

Farwell Aztec for life

Heath Farwell, a special teams co-captain for the Seahawks, recorded five tackles on Sunday in a 58-0 victory over the Cardinals (Seahawks.com)

LB Russell Allen – Jacksonville Jaguars vs. New York Jets
The Jaguars fell to the Jets on Sunday, 17-10. Allen had six total tackles in the loss, and still ranks fifth in the NFL this season with 85 solo tackles.

LB Antwan Applewhite – Carolina Panthers vs. Atlanta Falcons
The Panthers knocked off one of league’s best teams on Sunday, defeating the Falcons, 30-20. Applewhite did not play, however, as was placed on the season-ending injured reserve list last week because of a hamstring injury.

LS Aaron Brewer – Denver Broncos vs. Oakland Raiders
The Broncos continued their hot streak on Thursday, winning their eighth straight game by beating the Raiders, 26-13. Brewer continued to snap well on both field goals and punts for the Broncos, as they made all four of their field goal attempts and punted twice for an average of 44.5 yards.

WR Vincent Brown – San Diego Chargers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
The Chargers defeated the Ravens on Sunday, 34-24. Brown sat out once again as he is still recovering from the broken ankle he suffered in the preseason. He is not expected to return this season.

LB Miles Burris – Oakland Raiders vs. Denver Broncos
Burris had seven total tackles in Thursday’s loss to the Broncos. He currently ranks sixth in the NFL amongst all rookies this season with 79 total tackles.

OT/OG Brandyn Dombrowski – San Diego Chargers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
Dombrowski did not play in the Chargers’ win over the Steelers as he was placed on the season-ending injured reserve list two weeks ago.

LB Heath Farwell – Seattle Seahawks vs. Arizona Cardinals
The Seahawks destroyed the struggling Cardinals on Sunday, 58-0. Farwell was all over the field on special teams, and recorded five total tackles in the blowout victory. It was a season-high for Farwell, who is one of the Seahawks’ co-captains on special teams.

RB Ronnie Hillman – Denver Broncos vs. Oakland Raiders
Hillman had four carries for 24 yards in the Broncos’ win over the Raiders on Thursday. He remains the second option running back behind Knowshon Moreno, who carried the ball 32 times for 119 yards.

QB Ryan Lindley – Arizona Cardinals vs. Seattle Seahawks
The Cardinals woes continued on Sunday in the blowout loss to the Seahawks. John Skelton started the game at quarterback, but was benched after going 11-22 for 74 yards and four interceptions. Lindley replaced Skelton in the third quarter, and went 8-17 for 59 yards.

OG Lance Louis – Chicago Bears vs. Minnesota Vikings
The Bears fell to the Vikings on Sunday, 21-14. Louis, who missed his second straight game, is out for the remainder of the season with a torn ACL in his left knee. His importance to the team has become evident in the last two weeks, as the Bears have lost both games without Louis in the lineup.

WR Kassim Osgood – Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers
In a division rivalry, the Lions lost to the Packers on Sunday, 27-20. Osgood continued to play on special teams for the Lions, but did not record any stats in the game.

OT Will Robinson – New Orleans Saints vs. New York Giants
The Saints fell to the Giants on Sunday, 52-27. Robinson did not start the game, but saw time in a reserve role filling in for injured right tackle Zach Strief. He will remain a reliable backup for the Saints, as they have had injury concerns on the offensive line all season.

WR Chaz Schilens – New York Jets vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jets beat the Jaguars on Sunday, improving their record to 6-7. Schilens had two catches for 27 yards in the victory.

Vincent Brown Aztecs For Life

LB Russell Allen – Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Buffalo Bills
The Jaguars fell to the Bills on Sunday, 34-18. In what has been a tough season for Jacksonville, Allen has been a consistent bright spot. He had nine total tackles in the game, and is ranked fifth in the NFL with 81 solo tackles this season.

LB Antwan Applewhite – Carolina Panthers vs. Kansas City Chiefs
The Panthers lost to the Chiefs on Sunday, 27-21. Applewhite was inactive for the sixth straight week after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 7.

LS Aaron Brewer – Denver Broncos vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Arguably the hottest team in the league, the Broncos won their seventh straight game on Sunday as they beat the Buccaneers, 31-23. Brewer continued to snap well for the Broncos, but did not record any tackles in punt coverage.

WR Vincent Brown – San Diego Chargers vs. Cincinnati Bengals
The Chargers were defeated by the Bengals on Sunday, 20-13. This loss dampened the chances of Brown playing this season, as it has been reported that his return will likely depend on the team’s playoff chances. Brown is not expected to return unless he is needed for a playoff push, which is unlikely for the struggling Chargers.

LB Miles Burris – Oakland Raiders vs. Cleveland Browns
In a tight battle, the Raiders lost to the Browns on Sunday, 20-17. Burris recorded eight total tackles in the loss.

OT/OG Brandyn Dombrowski – San Diego Chargers vs. Cincinnati Bengals
Battling a foot injury all season, Dombrowski was put on injured reserve last week. The move officially declared him out for the remainder of the season.

LB Heath Farwell – Seattle Seahawks vs. Chicago Bears
The Seahawks defeated the Bears on Sunday, 23-17. Farwell continued to play an important special teams role for Seattle, but did not record any tackles in the game.

RB Ronnie Hillman – Denver Broncos vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
In the Broncos victory over the Buccaneers, Hillman had five carries for 29 yards. Even with Willis McGahee hurt, Hillman remains the second running back option behind Knowshon Moreno, who carried the ball 20 times for 69 yards.

QB Ryan Lindley – Arizona Cardinals vs. New York Jets
With a relatively young and inexperienced offensive line, Lindley had a tough time getting into a rhythm in his second career start and the Cardinals lost to the Jets, 7-6. He finished 10-31 for 72 yards and threw one interception.

OG Lance Louis – Chicago Bears vs. Seattle Seahawks
After suffering a season-ending knee injury last week, Louis was forced to watch on Sunday as the Bears fell to the Seahawks. He will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL in his left knee.

LB Kirk Morrison – Buffalo Bills vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
Morrison was inactive once again in the Bills’ victory over the Jaguars. He was released by the Bills on Monday, and it is uncertain if any other team will make a push to sign him for the remainder of the season.

WR Kassim Osgood – Detroit Lions vs. Indianapolis Colts
The Lions were the latest team to fall to arguably the biggest surprise of the season, the Colts. In the 35-33 loss, Osgood was active on special teams and recorded one tackle.

OT Will Robinson – New Orleans Saints vs. Atlanta Falcons
The Saints fell to the Falcons on Thursday, 23-13. With tackle Zach Strief back in the lineup, Robinson did not start, but is still excited to be a part of the team. Here is a recent article about Robinson making his return to the NFL after working as a bouncer.

WR Chaz Schilens – New York Jets vs. Arizona Cardinals
Schilens’ got the upper hand against his former teammate Ryan Lindley on Sunday, as the Jets knocked off the Cardinals. Schilens finished with two catches for 5 yards.

Aztecs in the NFL: Week 7

Miles Burris recorded his first-ever NFL sack on Sunday in the Raiders victory over the Jaguars

LB Russell Allen – Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Oakland Raiders
In a battle of former San Diego State linebackers, Allen’s Jaguars fell to the Raiders and Miles Burris in overtime, 26-23. Allen had four tackles and one fumble recovery in the game.

LB Antwan Applewhite – Carolina Panthers vs. Dallas Cowboys
The Panthers were defeated by the Cowboys, 19-14, and Applewhite did not record any tackles. He appeared to tweak his hamstring on the first play of the second half as he limped off the field following the kickoff. He did not return to the game, and his status for next week is uncertain.

LS Aaron Brewer – Denver Broncos, BYE

WR Vincent Brown – San Diego Chargers, BYE

LB Miles Burris – Oakland Raiders vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
In a big overtime victory over the Jaguars, Burris played one of his best games yet. He had 7 total tackles, and recorded the first sack of his NFL career when he took down Jaguars’ quarterback Chad Henne for a loss of 10 yards. Burris is becoming one of the most important players on the Raiders’ defense, as he was on the field for all 63 defensive snaps according to NFL blogger Steve Corkran.

OT/OG Brandyn Dombrowski – San Diego Chargers, BYE

LB Heath Farwell – Seattle Seahawks vs. San Francisco 49ers
Although the Seahawks lost to the 49ers last Thursday, Farwell continues to solidify himself as one of the top special teams tacklers in the league. He had one tackle in the game, and is tied for first in the NFL for special teams tackles with nine. Farwell led the league in special teams tackles in 2011.

RB Ronnie Hillman – Denver Broncos, BYE

QB Ryan Lindley – Arizona Cardinals vs. Minnesota Vikings
With John Skelton starting at quarterback, the Cardinals were defeated by the Vikings, 21-14. Lindley is once again the backup, as Kevin Kolb is expected to miss several weeks after suffering an injury to his ribs and sternum.

OG Lance Louis – Chicago Bears vs. Detroit Lions
Louis and his fellow offensive lineman had their hands full Monday night with Ndamukong Suh and the rest of the Lions defensive line, but the Bears were able to come away with the win, 13-7. They improved their record to 5-1.

LB Kirk Morrison – Buffalo Bills vs. Tennessee Titans
In a back-and-forth game, the Bills fell to the Titans, 35-34. Morrison was inactive once again, and has yet to play in a game this season. There is still no clear reason as to why he is inactive.

WR Kassim Osgood – Detroit Lions vs. Chicago Bears
For the second consecutive game, Osgood recorded a tackle on special teams. The Lions struggled as a team, however, and could not find a way to get their offense going in the loss to the Bears.

WR Chaz Schilens – New York Jets vs. New England Patriots
Schilens failed to record a catch for just the second time this season and the Jets were defeated by the Patriots in overtime, 29-26.
