While Stephen Strasburg continues to make national headlines, another San Diego State baseball product is steadily making his name known in the big leagues.

Addison Reed, who played for the Aztecs from 2007-2010 and is now a closer for the Chicago White Sox, is making sure people know that San Diego State has produced more than just Strasburg.

He appeared in 62 games in 2012, and posted 29 saves with a 3-2 record and 54 strikeouts. According to an article in the Chicago Tribune, Reed worked hard to improve his off-speed pitches in the offseason, and he has shown immense improvement this year.

As of April 26, Reed has tallied seven saves in 21 games this season, and is currently tied for fifth in the MLB. He is on pace for approximately 54 saves, nearly doubling his total in 2012. The young right-hander  has an ERA of 0.90, and has also recorded 10 strikeouts, which has him on pace for over 70 this season.

For this “Aztec for life”, saving games is a breeze in the Windy City.
