Former Aztec offensive lineman Will Robinson made his season debut on Sunday for the New Orleans Saints

LB Russell Allen – Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Tennessee Titans
Allen and the Jaguars defeated the Titans on Sunday, 24-19. Allen had eight total tackles in the game, seven of which were solo stops. He is currently ranked fifth in the NFL with 74 solo tackles this season.

LB Antwan Applewhite – Carolina Panthers vs. Philadelphia Eagles
Behind an impressive performance by Cam Newton, the Panthers beat the Eagles Monday night, 30-22. Applewhite was inactive for the fifth straight week after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 7.

LS Aaron Brewer – Denver Broncos vs. Kansas City Chiefs
The Broncos won their sixth straight game and improved to 8-3 on the season after beating the Chiefs, 17-9. Brewer continued to play his role as he snapped well on field goals and punts. 

WR Vincent Brown – San Diego Chargers vs. Baltimore Ravens
The Chargers lost to the Ravens in overtime, 16-13. Brown remains out with an ankle injury suffered in the preseason, and there is no clear timetable on his return.

LB Miles Burris – Oakland Raiders vs. Cincinnati Bengals
Although the Raiders were beaten handily by the Bengals on Sunday, Burris had a career day. In the 34-10 loss, Burris recorded a career-high 13 total tackles. It was also the most tackles by any Raider in a game this season. 

OT/OG Brandyn Dombrowski – San Diego Chargers
Dombrowski returned to practice three weeks ago after sitting out with a foot injury, but it is still uncertain if he will see any game action this season. 

LB Heath Farwell – Seattle Seahawks vs. Miami Dolphins
The Seahawks fell to the Dolphins on a last-second field goal, 24-21. Farwell, who plays primarily on special teams, did not record any tackles in the game.

RB Ronnie Hillman – Denver Broncos vs. Kansas City Chiefs
Even with former starting running back Willis McGahee out with injury, Hillman did not get as much playing time as expected and had three carries for 9 yards. Former first round pick Knowshon Moreno took the bulk of the carries, rushing 20 times for 85 yards.

QB Ryan Lindley – Arizona Cardinals vs. St. Louis Rams
Lindley’s came out strong in his first career start, but cooled off and the Cardinals lost to the Rams, 17-13. After starting 7-8 for 80 yards, he finished 31-52 for 312 yards and four interceptions. Still showing confidence in his young quarterback, Cardinals’ coach Ken Whisenhunt has said that Lindley will continue to start.

OG Lance Louis – Chicago Bears vs. Minnesota Vikings
The Bears defeated the Vikings on Sunday, 28-10. Louis, however, left the game with a knee injury, and it has been reported that he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. It is a tough loss for the playoff-hopeful Bears, as Louis, who has been arguably their most consistent offensive lineman, will miss the remainder of the season.

LB Kirk Morrison – Buffalo Bills vs. Indianapolis Colts
The Bills lost to the Colts on Sunday, 20-13. Morrison was inactive once again, and has yet to see any action this season.

WR Kassim Osgood – Detroit Lions vs. Houston Texans
Osgood and the Lions lost a controversial game on Thursday, falling to the Texans 34-31 in overtime. Osgood continues to play primarily on special teams for the Lions, but he did not record any tackles or other stats in the game.

OT Will Robinson – New Orleans Saints vs. San Francisco 49ers
The Saints were defeated by the 49ers on Sunday, 31-21. After being signed just one week ago, Robinson made his season debut on Sunday, filling in for injured right tackle Bryce Harris. It is unsure if Robinson will start next week, as it depends on the status of Harris and Zach Strief, the original starter.

WR Chaz Schilens – New York Jets vs. New England Patriots
The Jets were not the most thankful team on Thursday, as they fell to the Patriots, 49-19. Schilens had two catches for 28 yards in the game.

Aztec Stat of the Week: 18

This week, only one stat matters.

“Championships?”
“18.”
“Working on?”
“19.”

Since 2009, that is what has been said before every team meeting by the San Diego State football team. The coach asks two simple questions, the players give two simple responses.

In school history, 18 conference championships have been won, and Aztec fans have been anxiously awaiting the 19th for years.

SDSU controls its own destiny on Saturday, as they will finally have the chance to win their 19th conference championship when they take on Wyoming in their final Mountain West Conference game.

If the Aztecs win, there are two other games that will determine whether or not the Mountain West Conference championship is shared or won outright. SDSU, Boise State, and Fresno State are all 6-1 in conference play, and each have one game remaining.

Air Force vs. Fresno State – 12:30 p.m. pst on Saturday, Nov. 24 at Bulldog Stadium in Fresno, Calif.

Boise State vs. Nevada – TBA on Saturday, Dec. 1 at Mackay Stadium in Reno, Nev.

If both Fresno State and Boise State lose their final conference games, SDSU will win the conference championship outright. Because there are no tiebreakers in the Mountain West, if either Fresno State or Boise State, or both, win their final games, it will be either a two-way or three-way tie for the conference championship.

Previous Conference Championships 

In order of the most recent, the 18 conference championships in SDSU history are as follows:

1998, 1986, 1974, 1973, 1972, 1970, 1969, 1967, 1966, 1963, 1962, 1951, 1950, 1937, 1936, 1924, 1923, 1922

In 1998, led by head coach Ted Tollner, the Aztecs were co-champions of the Western Athletic Conference with a conference record of 7-1 and an overall record of 7-5. They tied with BYU and Air Force in the regular season, making the three teams co-champions in conference play. Air Force eventually went on to beat BYU in the conference championship game, but SDSU was technically still a co-champion in the regular season.

The last time SDSU won a conference championship outright was in 1986, when quarterback Todd Santos led the Aztecs to a 7-1 record in the Western Athletic Conference and an 8-4 record overall. The season ended with a heartbreaking 39-38 loss to Iowa in the Holiday Bowl.

This Saturday will determine if the Aztecs can secure their 19th conference championship, and the following Saturday could determine if it is won outright or shared.

Aztecs in the NFL: Week 11

LB Russell Allen – Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Houston Texans
In an offensive showdown that saw nearly 1,100 yards of total offense, the Jaguars lost to the Texans in overtime, 43-37. Allen was all over the field on defense, recording 15 total tackles. He now ranks fifth in the league with 67 solo tackles and is tied for eighth with 85 total tackles.

LB Antwan Applewhite – Carolina Panthers vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Panthers fell to the Buccaneers, 27-21. Applewhite was inactive for the fourth straight week after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 7. His status for Week 12 is uncertain.

LS Aaron Brewer – Denver Broncos vs. San Diego Chargers
The Broncos continued their strong play and won their fifth straight game as they defeated the Chargers, 30-23. Brewer remained solid with his snapping duties, helping the special teams unit make three field goals and punt five times for an average of 50.4 yards per punt.

WR Vincent Brown – San Diego Chargers vs. Denver Broncos
Brown remains out with an ankle injury suffered in the preseason. It was reported last week that he was running once again and is making progress, but there is no clear timetable on his return.

LB Miles Burris – Oakland Raiders vs. New Orleans Saints
Without star running back Darren McFadden for the second straight week, the injury-depleted Raiders could not handle the high-powered offense of the Saints, and lost 38-17. Burris, however, had an impressive outing on the defensive side of the ball with eight total tackles.

OT/OG Brandyn Dombrowski – San Diego Chargers vs. Denver Broncos
Dombrowski returned to practice two weeks ago after sitting out with a foot injury, but it is still uncertain if he will see any game action this season.

LB Heath Farwell – Seattle Seahawks, BYE

RB Ronnie Hillman – Denver Broncos vs. San Diego Chargers
After an injury to starting running back Willis McGahee, Hillman came in and helped the Broncos take down the struggling Chargers. He had 12 carries for 43 yards and two catches for 16 yards. He will likely start at running back next week, as McGahee is expected to be out 6-8 weeks.

QB Ryan Lindley – Arizona Cardinals vs. Atlanta Falcons
After a shaky start by John Skelton, Cardinals’ head coach Ken Whisenhunt gave Lindley a chance to take over under center. Lindley, who had to battle back from a questionable fumble call that resulted in a Falcons touchdown, was 9-20 for 64 yards in his first-ever NFL action. In a game that went down to the final minutes, the Cardinals lost to the Falcons, 23-19. It has not yet been decided who will start at quarterback next week, but it seems likely that Lindley is now the guy in Arizona.

OG Lance Louis – Chicago Bears vs. San Francisco 49ers
In the battle of backup quarterbacks, Jason Campbell and the Bears lost to Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers on Monday night, 32-7. Louis and his offensive lineman had their hands full with the 49ers’ pass rushers, and the Bears’ record dropped to 7-3.

LB Kirk Morrison – Buffalo Bills vs. Miami Dolphins
The Bills defeated the Dolphins, 19-14, but Morrison was inactive once again. He has yet to see any game action this season.

WR Kassim Osgood – Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers
In a heated division battle, the Lions fell to the Packers, 24-20. Osgood continues to play on special teams but did not record any tackles in the game.

WR Chaz Schilens – New York Jets vs. St. Louis Rams
The Jets beat the Rams on Sunday, 27-13, and Schilens had a solid game. He hauled in four catches for 48 yards and one touchdown. It was his second touchdown of the season and ninth of his career.
