Meet the Aztecs: Q&A with Seamus McMorrow

The fourth in a daily series of Q&A’s with the 2012 signing class.

Seamus McMorrow is a 5-foot-11, 190 pound kicker and punter. A local product, McMorrow went to St. Augustine High School in San Diego. He comes to San Diego State after a successful high school career where he was named All-CIF kicker of the year in the San Diego Section for his efforts during his senior season.

McMorrow has a powerful leg, and his versatility in both the kicking and the punting game makes him a valuable asset to have.

McMorrow may be counted on immediately due to the departures of both former kicker Abel Perez and former punter Brian Stahovich. He will compete for the starting job at both kicker and punter leading up to the 2012 season.

Q: Why did you choose SDSU?
A: I chose SDSU because this is my hometown. I feel very comfortable here and I don’t want to live anywhere else. It’s great weather and my family played a big role in me staying. I just love San Diego and the football team is coming up.

Q: How were the summer workouts for you?
A: They are definitely hard. I went to the Navy SEALs once and had to do some training with them, but other than that this is the hardest training I have ever done in my life.

Q: Have you picked your major yet?
A: My major is business management. If football doesn’t work out I hope to someday open a business and work on my own.

Q: What are you most excited for leading up to your first semester at San Diego State?
A: The football season so I can get on the field and show them what I have.

Q: What do you like to do during your spare time?
A: I like to go fishing and hunting. I like to hang out with my friends and just have a good time.

Q: Who are your favorite professional sports teams?
A: I like the San Diego Chargers and the Los Angeles Lakers. I also like the Oakland Raiders.

Q: Is there any athlete that you look up to or try to model your game after?
A: I don’t really try to model my game after anybody. I try to do my own thing. My favorite athletes are Michael Jordan and Cristiano Ronaldo, though.

Q: If you weren’t a football player, what sport would you be playing?
A: I would be playing soccer. I played it for three years in high school.

Q: Since you are from San Diego, what is your favorite thing about the city?
A: My favorite things are probably the beach and just summer time in San Diego. I like to surf.

Q: What is the farthest field goal you have ever made in a game and in practice?
A: I made a 58-yarder my junior year against Scripps Ranch High School. In practice, I made a 65-yarder once.
